workshops

There could be no Lafrowda Day without the Lafrowda Festival Workshop Programme.

The workshops are where the big sculptures are built, the banners and lanterns are made, and the processions come together with sounds and movement.

The preparations bring the community together, and keep the unique spirit of the festival alight. Planning goes on all year, building up to a flurry of activity in the weeks running up to the big day.

The Festival organises subsidised workshops in local schools, and hires them the special trolleys on which the big images are rigged. However, It’s not just the children and young people who get involved. Each year there is also an open workshop programme for anyone who is interested in making something for Lafrowda.

Lafrowda Festival is a registered charity which takes the creative opportunities to the people of the St Just area. In doing so, it’s also provides much-needed paid work for the artists and workshop assistants who live here.

See the results for yourself when you watch the processions on Lafrowda Day.
