street performers – lafrowda day 2009
With this year’s programme bursting at the seams with interesting and unusual talent, we blast off at 11.00 am at the Clock Tower with “Anarchetypean”, a mix of radical punky rootsy up tempo folk with singer songwriter Phil James.
Keep an eye open for Balloonatics, 11.00, 1.30 and 4.15, ” an entertaining, sophisticated and highly creative act that leaves a lasting impression. They are indisputably the UK’s most extravagent balloon artists”.
Returning for a welcome second year, Squashbox Theatre with his inimitable puppet characters will be around the streets at 12.30, 2.45 and 5.15.
Two Lafrowda regulars: Cirque de Ciel will be around the squares all afternoon, and the Poppy Clements Acrobats can be seen by the Clock Tower at 1.00pm.
At 1.30 you can experience Seef Saffah, who are a group of women who perform dances from a wide range of countries and cultures. Ancient and modern from the mountains of Morocco to the Nile Delta, from the Middle East and beyond to India. Presenting exuberant folk dances, elegant classical pieces and modern urban styles ranging from belly dance to Bollywood with all sorts of fusion thrown in. An exotic feast!
On the subject of dance, Beltane Border will be performing in Bank Square at 12.30, 3.00pm and 5.15pm with their high spirited unique interpretation of Border Morris.
“Rhythms from Africa and Japan” at 2.00pm in Bank Square. The rich sound of African rhythm and song will be played by an enthusiastic adult group from West Cornwall led by Jason Davies. The art of Japanese drumming (TAIKO) will be performed by the Taiko Warriors, a passionate group of pupils and ex-pupils of Mounts Bay School led by Richard McCallum. It is dynamic, loud and GREAT FUN!
