Lafrowda fundraiser at the Acorn
Saturday 27 January
St Just’s Lafrowda festival comes to Penzance on Saturday. Some of the stars of past festivals - Pondlife, Ammunition and The Boycott Boys will be performing at the Acorn Arts Centre to help raise funds for this year’s celebrations.
The show - Lovechild of Lafrowda - is being organised by Kevin Godden, chair of the Lafrowda Trust. He explained ‘It’s the first time we’ve ventured into town, and it’s an indication of the way our reputation for showcasing the very best of local music has grown.
‘We’ve been on myspace.com for the past two months and have had more than 300 hits on the site. It seems to be gathering more momentum as time goes on and I hope to add music excerpts and video clips in the near future. It’s proving invaluable in establishing links with musicians - and helps ensure that we can continue to showcase the very best of local talent on Lafrowda Day.’
The 2007 Lafrowda Festival kicks off on 14 July, building up to the big event of the year - Lafrowda Day will be on Saturday 21 July. Work is only just beginning on the arrangements, but we can reveal that this year’s theme will be ‘Elements’.
Organising Lafrowda is a mammoth task and is all done by local community volunteers. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the management and administration of this year’s Festival, should send their contact details to volunteers@lafrowda-festival.co.uk.
Doors open for Lovechild of Lafrowda at 19.30 and tickets cost £7 from the Acorn Box Office (01736 365520).
