Lafrowda fundraiser – Bring Your Own Vinyl Disco
Saturday 10^th May 2008

St Just’s Lafrowda festival are inviting you to dig out your vinyl records and bring them along to be played at a unique disco on Saturday May 10^th. The event is being hosted by visual artist Bruce Davies (aka DJ Deafened) to raise funds for this year’s festival. As well as music and dancing, there will be a raffle, prizes and a licensed bar.

Bruce began his homage to vinyl in February when he created a ‘pseudo record shop’ under the name of ‘Let’s Play Records!’ at Newlyn art gallery. He explained “The response was overwhelming and very energetic particularly from the DJs who appeared through out the week to play their collections. The gallery also played host to a ‘Let’s Play Records!’ disco. It was the first of its kind at the gallery and was packed out.” The twist with the BYO Disco is that the audience provide the music!

Lafrowda chair, Kevin Godden, said “we are delighted to present another unique event in St Just. This night is going to be great fun. It’s a bonus that we can showcase the work of local artists and raise much needed funds at the same time.”

The 2008 Lafrowda Festival kicks off on 11^th July, building up to the big event of the year - Lafrowda Day on Saturday 19^th July. Work is well under way on arrangements, and this year’s theme is ‘It’s Playtime’.

The BYO Disco will be in residence at St Just WI Hall 7.30-11.00pm on Saturday 10^th May. Entry £3 on the door. So if you have any records lying about that you have wanted to dance to but never get the chance, then bring them along and help create an eclectic dance mix and support a very special festival at the same time. !
